When my posts went viral, it felt like an overnight scored internet lottery. Behind the euphoria of thousands of likes, shares, and comments; each one a small burst of validation and invaluable lessons.
6 Things I learned From Going Viral.
1. The Flood of Attention & Comments
The sheer volume of comments and messages avalanche.
From thrilling to see the engagement to overwhelming. Sorting through supportive messages, genuine questions, and a sprinkle of negativity was a balancing act.
I learned quickly that it's crucial to manage your time and mental space. Engage meaningfully set time to do this.
Pro-tips: Turned off all the notifications on your phone & watch.
2. Maintaining the Momentum
I didn’t do enough last time, I’m going to do this time. 😅
There’s an unspoken pressure: what’s next? How do you top a viral post? Or if this was a one-time thing?
Spoiler: I had quiet down time between viraled posts.
Some moments I tried to re-purpose & recreate the posts, but lightening don't strike twice! The lesson here was to focus on authenticity and consistent rather than chasing the next viral hit.
3. Gratitude and Connection
Perhaps the most important lesson was gratitude. 🙏Every interaction was a chance to connect with someone who found value in my story.
I showed up with appreciation, reply to Hi! And engaging with my audience fostered a community, not just a fleeting moment of fame.
Tips: First thing I shared with is my mentees on how I did it. I also plan to check in with a live call with those who has subscribed to my newsletter.
4. Navigating Opportunities
Virality brings visibility, and with it, opportunities. Some were aligned with my vision, others not so much.
Learn to say no. Use your discernment to sense and dismiss trolls, haters and time-wasters. Staying true to my core values ensured I didn’t dilute the trust I had built with my audience.
Pro tip: Only say yes to what vibes with your goals.
5. Spotlight comes scrutiny & jealousy.
How we love those keyboard warriors ! You can’t please ‘em all. Just move on. Everyone entitled to have their POVs. While most feedback was positive, some was not. I’m pretty resilience mentally and thick-skin 🤣
I’m not going to let few negative comments ruin my days! Constructive criticism is growth, while unfounded negativity just let it go.
6. Leveraging the Moment
I realised that a viral moment is an opportunity to deepen the connection with your existing audience - show them how I did it! Also fostering new followers into long-term community members.
Tips: I created follow-up content that expanded on the themes of the viral post, providing more value. If you have a main platform or community place e.g Skool or Facebook Group. It’s good to drive traffic there. Mine is Instagram.
Going viral was a roller-coaster, but success isn't just the initial wave of attention—it’s what you build from it.
This is the viral Thread post.
